Woolworths has been forced to remove “inappropriate” Halloween decorations from a WA store after a mum complained her children were frightened.

The shopper, from Esperance, on the State’s south coast, took to Facebook to vent her frustration.

She posted an image of the decoration in question — a large skeleton figure dressed in a black gown hanging from the ceiling.

She wrote: “The decorations are not appropriate, can’t you just dedicate a spot or something?

“Anyone else struggle with their kids when the decorations come out?”

The woman said her children asked to go to IGA instead because “they don’t have scary decorations.”

The mum did make a point to praise the supermarket for its “quiet hour”.

The low-sensory hour was rolled out to more than 260 stores across Australia ion 2019.

The program is designed to reduce anxiety and sensory stress for customers with specific needs, including autism, by providing a quieter and less stimulating environment in store.

“It’s great you have quiet hour but this (decorations) is not helping at all,” the mum wrote.

Some social media users agreed with the mum.

“Couldn’t agree more! This US based thing is out of control! Check out the ones in Kmart, they are worse! Frightened the daylights out of me and I’m in my 60s. They’d definitely give a kid nightmares,” one person wrote.

But others did not, encouraging the family to get into the spirit of Halloween.

One person said: “It’s Halloween. I really don’t see your issue.”

A Woolworths spokesperson told PerthNow the decoration has since been removed.

“Our store teams enjoy helping customers celebrate a range of events throughout the year and we encourage them to get in the festive spirit by decorating their store in the lead up to celebrations like Halloween,” they said.

“We want all customers to feel comfortable and welcome in our stores, and appreciate this customer’s feedback on the decorations at her local store.

“We have passed this feedback on to the store team, who have since amended the display.”
